Cr Colin McKenzie
Home – south of Lake Bolac
First elected to Council – 2002
Mayoral term – 2011
Why did you stand for Council?
I saw being a Councillor as an extension of my community work in the sport, farming, emergency services and community service areas. I also believe I can help address rural issues the Council faces with my experience in the farming sector.
What skills and knowledge do you bring to the Council table?
I have obtained a lot of experience working with many different organisations over the years through my community work and farming business, and I hope to improve the conditions of the many different groups I mix in. I am especially keen to help those who help themselves.
What do you think are the three most important issues for Council to tackle?
- The economic sustainability of the Council and municipality.
- Servicing the ratepayers within that level of sustainability.
- Promoting the municipality, again within that level of economic sustainability.
What is your profession?
I am a farmer – cereal crops and sheep.
What is your favourite part of the region?
I love being on the farm with all the challenges that come with that. I enjoy most of the rural areas but especially the lake at Lake Bolac.
What is your proudest achievement?
My family – I have five children and they are all well respected in their communities and have done well within their respective professions.
How do you relax in your spare time?
I enjoy sport and participate in tennis and golf. Over the years I have played football, volleyball and athletics and enjoyed (sometimes!) being a football umpire.
