We work closely with a number of other agencies including Victoria Police, SES, CFA, Red Cross, and Ambulance Victoria in Emergency Management Planning, relief and recovery.

Relief Centres have been identified across the municipality and will be activated when needed. Their location will be broadcast during an emergency. For community warnings and information tune in to your local radio station.

A Neighbourhood Safer Place-Place of Last Resort (NSP) may provide some protection from direct flame and radiant heat. NSPs do not guarantee safety and access to a site may be difficult and dangerous.  You should always activate your bushfire survival plan and leave early.

Council has designated the following Neighbourhood Safer Places:

Fire Planning

Not everyone thinks clearly in an emergency.

A written and well practiced plan will help you remember what needs to be done in a crisis. For more information and template plans visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au or wvw.redcross.org.au.

Community information guides have been prepared for Ararat, Elmhurst, Lake Bolac, Moyston, Pomonal, Streatham and Willaura and can be accessed via the CFA website

Flood Planning

Flood planning has been conducted by the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority, Wimmera Catchment Authority and Ararat Rural City Council. The results of these studies form the basis of the Ararat Rural City Council Flood Emergency Response Plan. The study focuses on the inundation levels in the Mt William, Upper Wimmera, Streatham, Ararat and Wickliffe areas.

The SES have produced a Flood Information Guide for the township of Wickliffe.

Road Closures

During Emergencies some roads may be closed.  For updated information on road closures go to the VicRoads website.
