The Recruitment process

In applying for advertised positions vacant, the Ararat Rural City Application Guide should be followed. The guide explains the recruitment process and the procedures that are followed during the recruitment process.

All applicants are requested to provide a covering letter that introduces the applicant as well as highlighting their relevant experience and how this relates to the position applied for.

Applicants are also requested to provide a current copy of their Resumé, The names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail address (If available) of three professional referees as well as a statement that addresses the key responsibilities set out in the position description.

The short listing of candidates is undertaken within 2 weeks of the closing date, following this all applicants are contacted to inform them of the status of their application, within 3 weeks of the closing date.

When applying for advertised positions applicants are asked to submit written applications that are assessed by the relevant authorities within the organisation. Short listed applicants are asked to attend an interview before processing the application any further.

All matters relating to the interview process, including notes and personal reflections made by members of the interview panel are kept under the strictest confidentiality.

All submitted applications are treated with the highest possible confidentiality. Unsuccessful applications are disposed of 6 months following the closing date of applications for the position, in accordance with the Public Records Act 1973.

The personal details of the successful applicant/s are kept on the personnel file of the person. Access to this file is only available to members of the People and Culture team and the employee themselves. All personnel files are kept in a secure locked area.
