Small businesses in the Ararat Rural City area can now obtain free support through Council with the appointment of Small Business Development Officer John Watson.
Mr Watson started with Council on February 25 and is available to meet with small business owners who need advice, support and assistance.
Mayor Cr Ian Wilson said the new position would be a great asset to the many small businesses that make up the backbone of the region’s economy.
Cr Wilson said the service is free to small businesses and is supported by funding through the Local Skills Partnership Program of the State Government, the Ararat Rural City Council, and Ararat Regional Business Association (ARBA).
Mr Watson, who has moved from Ballarat to take up the position, has many years of experience in small and large business including the use of new technologies, social media and computers.
He will work closely with small businesses and ARBA to help grow and market small businesses in Ararat.
“The service includes support, mentoring and assistance for all small business but has a particular focus on home-based businesses,” Cr Wilson said.
“Mr Watson will be meeting with as many small business operators as possible over the next few weeks but anyone else wanting to get in touch is encouraged to do so.”
