Head lice have been a problem in the community for many years. Ararat Rural City Council contributes to the control of head lice by supplying information to the community.
Head lice are common in school-aged children and continue to cause concern for parents, teachers and children. Developing an effective treatment and management strategy is vital, as head lice cannot be eradicated from the community. The management of head lice requires a thorough, systematic community approach as only inspecting and excluding cases of head lice is of limited benefit for control. Parents are encouraged to regularly check for head lice using inexpensive hair conditioner and a quality head lice comb. This is known to be a highly effective, chemical-free method of control.
