Roads & Infrastructure
The Parks and Gardens Department is located at the Council Depot. This Department is responsible for planting and maintaining street trees, parks, public gardens, playgrounds, roundabouts and median strips within the municipality. It is also responsible for maintenance of sports ovals.
Playground equipment and park furniture throughout the municipality is purchased and maintained by the Parks and Gardens Department.
Parks and Gardens staff trim and sometimes remove hazardous/dangerous trees that are on Council-owned land. Council is often called on to remove trees/branches that have fallen over local roads.
Ararat’s lakeside Alexandra Gardens, in Vincent Street, are a particular showpiece for Parks and Gardens staff. From June to November each year, the glass house within the gardens bursts into colour with the annual Cymbidium Orchid display.
Sale of Mulch/Woodchips
The Parks and Gardens Department has garden mulch for sale at the Depot. A small trailer or ute load costs $15/m3 (inclusive of GST). Availability of mulch at the Depot varies throughout the year, so it is advisable to call ahead.
A truckload (7m3) of mulch can also be purchased for $100.00 (inc. GST). Requests are usually added to a waiting list, with mulch delivered to your property as it becomes available. Staff will phone you prior to delivery.
