Roads, Bridge & Infrastructure Works
Ararat Rural City maintains 209 bridges, 326 major culverts, 663 kilometres of sealed roads and 1457 kilometres of gravel roads.
All roads within the municipality are allocated to a specific category.
National Highway, for which Vicroads in responsible:
- Western Highway
State Highways, for which Vicroads is responsible:
- Glenelg Highway; Pyrenees Highway
Main Roads, for which Vicroads is responsible:
- Ararat-Halls Gap Road
- Ararat-St Arnaud Road
- Lake Fyans Tourist Road
- Maroona-Glenthompson Road
- Mortlake-Ararat Road
- Rossbridge-Streatham Road
All other roads are Local Roads for which Council is responsible.
The condition of roads and bridges are assessed regularly and works are programmed on the basis of the frequency of road use (Road Hierarchy) and the condition/ safety of the road section.
